Hello, I am planning on getting my first fish (2 clowns) this week and I will be quarantining them before putting them in my DT. I don't have a cycled tank yet and was wondering if I put them in with Fritz turbo start if that will have any negative interactions with the copper ill be dosing them with. Or if the copper will prevent the bacteria from colonizing the tank.

No there shouldn't be a problem.

It's good to hear that you're planning on QT'ing your new fish!

As mentioned, your Fritz Turbo Start should be fine with the copper.

I know some reefers like to hang one of the SeaChem ammonia alert badges in the QT tank:

SeaChem Ammonia Alert Badge at BRS

If you notice a build up of ammonia in your QT tank, you can usually do a large water change to deal with that Just get the badge above or test frequently as ammonia can build up rapidly.

If/when you do a water change on your QT tank, it's important to dose the new water with the correct level of copper before adding the water to your QT tank. Adding new saltwater to your tank and then adding the copper medication would allow the concentration of copper in the QT to drop bellow the therapeutic level (even if it's just for a minute or so), and then technically you'd have to re-start your QT timeline.

Do you have even a small amount of cycled, ideally plastic bio media (not rock or ceramic that can react with the copper) in your DT that you can add to the filter on your QT tank to give it a head start?

For the future, if you keep a small, separate amount of bio media in the filter or sump on your DT, like just a few small bioballs, then you can use that media to setup an *instant* QT tank whenever it's needed.

I hope that helps and good luck!

No I don't have my DT set up yet these clowns will be my first fish so I don't have a tank to take media from and yeah I planned on slapping one of the ammonia alert badges on the tank. It's only a 10 gallon so doing water changes won't be an issue. I'll be premixing the saltwater with copper so it all stays above 2ppm.

No need for TurboStart in a QT. Especially if your premixing the copper with replacement water -- which is a really good idea.

Disagree. It depends on the biofiltration available.
I too disagree, it depends on the QT protocol you use. I prefer to have a stable biofilter in my QT tanks.
