Today, no matter where you get your corals from, it’s always the same story: a small, delicate animal that might cost hundreds of dollars is placed in a tiny, flimsy, cheap plastic bag tied with a sketchy rubber band. This bag lets your coral bang and slosh around inside, then gets tossed into another plastic bag. It's an accident waiting to happen. From that moment until you get home, you have to carry that plastic bag in your hands, worried sick about dropping it or letting anything hit it. The bag is susceptible to all kinds of damage—it can leak, get punctured easily, offers no protection, and usually leaves the coral upside down, rubbing its soft tissue against the bag. Not to mention the risk of hitting the bag and breaking a piece of the delicate skeleton or even crushing it. This damage could mean your coral won't make it in your tank. You end up wondering why the coral struggled to acclimate and thrive in your tank, if it survives at all.

What if you could transport your new corals in a container that keeps them upright and fully protected against any type of contact and damage? A container that you could just throw in your bag, backpack, or even a shipping box and forget about? Imagine having the peace of mind that your corals will make it home safe and sound, free of damage and stress, ensuring rapid acclimation and thriving in your tank. And what if this solution cost less than the cheapest coral frag you've ever bought and lasted for many, many years? What if it could carry eight frag plugs at once?

You've probably seen a couple of products that promise the same solution, but the Frag Ship outperforms them all. The first feature that sets it apart is the unique rubber grommets that hold the frag plugs in place. The common design used by all other containers is a sandwiched layer of silicone, which wasn't designed to withstand the forces involved in transportation, like a fully loaded container with heavy, larger frags and large skeletons bouncing around. The Frag Ship's frag plug holding system can't be found anywhere else. It's exclusive to Reef Outfit, designed by engineers specifically to keep frag plugs secure and withstand all types of transportation forces, and manufactured in a real factory. You can still remove your frags easily by pushing the frag plugs from underneath.

Another unbeatable feature is the 22oz container itself. It is undoubtedly the toughest, leak-proof container available on the planet! It was chosen after extensive research to ensure it is absolutely leak-proof and tough enough to take a beating without breaking or cracking.

The Frag Ship is also the only container that can carry 8 frag plugs, with the center spot having extra room to accommodate the largest frags.

The Frag Ship is a coral transportation solution you should bring with you every time you're shopping for corals. Whether at your LFS, a frag swap, getting corals from a buddy, or even shipping corals to someone else, the Frag Ship has you covered. You can even bring it on an airplane!

Approved by satisfied Reef Outfit customers, we are excited to offer an exclusive 25% discount to the R2R community for a limited time with coupon code RO25R2R. Say goodbye to flimsy plastic bags, protect your investment, and experience greater success with the Frag Ship!

I don’t think anyone is going to be selling corals and then putting them in a 30$ container and mailing it away

I like the product and think it’s a good idea, it looks well made. If my lfs was any good I would bring this with me to transport corals home.

Does tsa give an exception to the 3.4oz liquid rule for carry on ? It seems like they should as the coral and fish rule do not mention a volume limitation, but I can see a tsa officer being confused because generally all liquids and gels are 3.4oz or less

I wouldn't want to spend a bunch of $$ on frags only to find out that TSA policies are open somewhat to interpretation. Would not trust that container to be tossed around by grounds crews either, so it would have to be a carry on. Too risky.

Hi there, thank you for your feedback.

I understand, I regularly use it to ship corals with UPS/FedEx but sure, I can offset the cost a bit. On an order of a few hundreds dollars it doesn't weigh a lot, specially if you're shipping expensive frags and the customer certainly appreciates the care to protect their investment.

But you can use it to swap frags with a buddy, that way it would be returned, or you could also send a cheap $5 USPS prepaid shipping label and have it sent back in a used envelope.

Next time you go to a GOOD LFS take one with you, you'll enjoy the peace of mind.

The rule is clear but not specific enough, by not specifying a water volume it must be ok. Having live animals in the liquid should be enough to prove that it isnt an explosive liquid, as they wouldn't survive in it. But being airline safety such a sensible matter they must also state that the final decision is with the TSA officer as a safety mechanism in case he deems necessary.

Certainly suitable for carry-on only, in a bag, backpack or small suitcase in the overhead bin. Nothing survives the baggage crew!

Have you considered scaling down and offering smaller, cheaper options, that hold 1 plug, and maybe 3-5? Something like small, medium and large (current) versions?

If TSA saw my corals they would be arresting me thinking I’m attempting to bring poisonous or nuclear materials on a plane
its not that bad if anything they looked at me like a nerd and happen to get the number of the beautiful tsa agent that was checking my coral, when i declared for it for a manual inspection instead of going into the xray machine.

I certainly could, it would depend on what size containers I can get from this supplier as this is by far the best available and I wouldn't compromise. Luckily, they make them in quite a few different shapes and sizes.

There's one that I think would be perfect for a single frag plug, 11oz and roughly 4.5" x 3". Check it out:

These high-quality containers are expensive, but I could likely market the final product for under $15. Although cheaper, it would be much more expensive "per coral." For the price of two smaller versions, you could carry 8 corals with the larger version. Typically, I would think that you don't just buy one frag at a time, so the larger capacity would be more beneficial.

Would you still purchase it? I just need to understand why. If there's enough interest, I would gladly add it to my product line.

The medium size would be tricky. There's an 18oz version between the 11oz and 22oz, but it might be too close to the 22oz in capacity and price, likely fitting 5 x 1" plugs.

By the way, we're always promoting our products with discounts. Right now, with the 25% off coupon, the large 8-plug capacity container is just $23. We offer flat rate shipping at $5.90, free shipping on orders over $49, and reward points you can use for a discount.

Everyone’s different.

I have bought single corals for 250$ from vendors and hobbiests. A little bit of extra care in packaging and transport for a high value item would have been appreciated

The medium is probably most realistic for people buying 3-5 things a time

One thing I thought of…the single model would probably be most valuable to vendors and individuals if it can be made cheap

When buying several corals and shipping them, things are bagged individually so if a hammer gets bjd it doesn’t kill the rest of the order and pollute “communal” water. I picked hammer as an example but I’m sure you get the point.

The large is great to take in your car to the LFS. You pick a few things out. Get your container and bring it in for them to fill and put the coral in. Then drive it home and risk of loss / stress is extremely minimal.

But shipping is a different animal and even under ideal conditions some coral gets stressed or releases slime and that puts everything else at risk.

I think people would prefer to have things shipped individually. If the large was divided inside…or if the large was simply a vessel to hold several of the individuals together…that’s could be a solution

I’m just an engineer whose worked in R/D for various industries and thinking outside the box throwing some thoughts out there.

Someone buys 5 corals they get 5 containers grouped in a larger one. Or just 5 containers in a box with styrofoam

I do think a key here is figuring out how to do a single / individual protection capsule, efficiently. I’d be looking to china for bulk orders of a suitable container with lid, and then 3d printing / manufacturing an insert for a plug that fits properly

FYI my primary coral supplier transports all corals to me in individual jars with styrofoam inserts that the plug goes in. Where they get the jars from, who knows. But they are getting them cheap enough to include in orders and their prices

I use this container to dip incoming corals. The tray holds up frag plugs and I prepare to super glue. It container allows me to mix a small volume of dip solution and the tray allows me to move the frag plugs up and down and side to side. This is easier than using a baster to blow off each frag plug. The hand held tray is also allows me to transport 8 frag plugs from the dip solution to a beaker full of rinse solution quickly.
