I'm new to Reef2Reef and I'm looking for what advice on equipment I would need for a FOWLR tank. I've had one in the past and have had no success. So what did I do, I bought a new 150 gallon tank and a 39 gallon sump. So, to keep the fish alive and keeping the tank in acceptable parameters I'm looking for advice on what I need to get started. I've spent hours on the internet and haven't had much success finding FOWLR tank setups with proper equipment. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

It depends on how you want to maintain it. You could have filter socks or a filter roller. I highly recommend you add a skimmer, especially if you're going to add fish that eat more meaty foods (Triggers, lionfish, eels etc). Some people do run their FOWLR like a reef tank but you really don't need to if you don't have any coral. So I would say for starters I recommend a filter sock/mat/roller (which ever you prefer) and a skimmer. You could also have a bag of carbon in a relatively high flow in the sump for some water clarity.

Down the line, in a couple months or even a year you could add a UV sterilizer and or an algae scrubber. But they are not necessary.
