Hello, Im beginning my search for lights for my upcoming fish only build. I'm hoping you guys can come up with some suggestions!

The tank is 96 inches long, 36 inches front to back and 30 inches tall acrylic. approx 450 gallons, and its already in my home, in place.

I think I prefer hanging lights that I can suspend from above. I'd like to be able to control colors and intensity and duration.

I've seen the Aqua Illumination blade style lights as well as the other options from Aqua Illumination, but I have not done much other investigations. I'm hoping the collective knowledge here can help!

Thank you!

You don’t need anything special for FOWLR, so just get some that you like the way they make the tank look. If you want to save some $$, freshwater lights would be fine.

I run 4 of the AI Prime 16 HD. I really like the ability to adjust intensity and color. Also very nice ramp up and down. Controllable from the app.

Yep. As stated, it doesn't matter. However, if you like the look of coralline algae growth, your gonna have to treat your system like a reef tank, purchasing a light fixture that is suitable for such. Also, you're gonna have to monitor and adjust Ca, Mg and ALK.

pretty much any lighting will do.
that said I am with you on the look and features like hanging , sunrise sunset and adjust-ability.

the AI blads are nice I have them on my smaller reef as I wanted them right on the tank to controller light spill in the room ( other half does not like all the blue light)

for my 200 gal. FOWLR I went with what I had over my RS 650P reef that fail apart.
2X 24" photon V2

as you know you dont need a ton of lighting just so it looks good to you.
some like the 10K look other 20K I am around 14K I want to see the colors of the fish.

other lighting options are noopphysic, quanta bars, chirious, and pretty much and "reef" light off amazon.

this is where you can save some $$ even buy used older Gen. lights would be nice.

let us know what you decide to go with!

BTW that sounds like an epic tank size whats your stocking list gonna be??
Angels, tangs, wrasse, triggers.

Absolute must haves are Harliquin Tusk and French Angel. Probably a polini grouper too. Hopefully with 8 feet of swimming space they can live peacefully.

Thanks for the replies guys!

I'd look for point source lights with lots of shimmer. Those look really nice in fowler tanks.

If at any point you think you might add Coral, these are about the best lights you can buy right now. And they have a longer warranty than anyone (3 year), and are about HALF the cost of leading brands (Radion, Kessil etc) I run 4 of them on my 8foot long mixed reef.

I light my 8 foot 240 gal FOWLR with a couple of Fluval marine LED bars. PAR isn’t an issue, but they do have app control, sunrise and sunset, and the ability to adjust spectrum. Cheap and easy, and it makes the fish look good.
