Kelvin is color temperature
Par is light intensity

It can’t tell you the output in par because it is a variable and changes with distance

So is prophylactic algae a built in program or your name for a custom program?
Because if it won’t grow algae, it won’t grow most corals. Start a mushroom tank. You’ll be gold.

Sounds like you have a solid plan.
I am just curious about what brand/type of light you have, maybe we can be of some assistance in level beyond "keep the whites low" etc.

Not saying the LFS would sell you something unsafe on purpose, but we have seen some on this forum attempt to sell Hippos to people who are rocking 15 gallons, so we like to check all the boxes :)
Just trying to give you the best possible chance at an awesome tank, you're heading in a good direction.
Well, they sold him a purple tang for his 40 gallon cube to help him bring his nutrients up if that helps.

here is the type of LEDs I have

Here's a setting you might try! Search the forum for your light. Looks like there are a few people who have posted their settings here and there.

oh no, I named it that, but then I kept changing it and increasing it because I was having problems w cyano a while back when that relented I increased the amount of power. when you say they sold me a tang I've been to a few different LFS. But I like the tang and that's why I wanna buy a bigger tank so I can keep him longer. That's one of the reasons why I wanna get a longer tank anyway but I think I have about a year before I have to go that direction even though I'm tempted to buy one right now.

I love having my tank but I wish I had not gotten a cube tank. And not just for the horizontal swim space which is part of it. Flow, is hard as it lighting the depth of the tank. My upgrade may not be much in the way of volume. I have no desire to keep open water fish and don’t want to have to move a huge tank (nearing retirement and I don’t want to deal with a house this size many more years) but it will be a rectangle! Lol

Idk with that light in your tank what par might be at different levels. If it were a preloaded program that would give a clue. But it’s not so idk.

i agree. it's hard to know without experience what you really want and with some experience now i wished i woulda gone longer. but plenty of people have more than one tank right?
im just thinking for the cube it might be better to have two wave makers though.

there are different LED settings they have for the reef app. Right now I have it on one that slowly gets brighter and brighter as the day goes on and peaks and then decreases. I kind of hoped I was simulating like the sun rising over the course of the day, but I probably should switch over to something in the Program library . The one on the right is my current program setting.
if you put your finger on the photo with the programre library setting, it shows you the different Kelvin energy that I guess it emits. For some reason red Sea displays output in terms of Kelvin and not par.

See how the graphs on the left have a table like look? That is what you want, ramp up to your chosen par out put and keep it there for 4-6 hrs then ramp down. I like to do 10-11hrs of light my ramp is 12 noon to 3pm full par setting 3-8pm full and ramp down until 11pm moon light until 12am. With your schedule its no wonder stuff is doing poorly you have full par for what 15min maybe. Adopt one of the presets at the left.

As @VintageReefer said kelvin is a measurement of color temp of the lighting the higher the kelvin the bluer the light will look. I would adopt the RL90-15k for myself personally 20k is too blue for me.

Edit- Oh! and my color temp (kelvin) changes through the ramp up and down also. I dont know exactly what the kelvin of my setting are exactly but it starts with low power purple/deep blue and slowly increases in power and color to around something like a 12-14k look at full par then ramps down after 5hrs into that darker blue again and lower par levels over the next 3 hrs. I am sure if you play with the lights you can find out how to do that also, part of the full day effect. 20k+=deep blue, 10k= cool white, below 10k=warm white. Somewhere between 20k-10k is where you probably want to be and where most led lights are designed to be.

Honestly I think your way, way over thinking everything. My reef is just older than yours at 5 months, started on march 11th. It’s a 38g cube with one Nero 5 wave maker and a 400gpg return pump running full speed, I’m growing softies,LPS, and 3 sps. I think your simply doing the most and not allowing your tank to establish, why do ICP test on such a young tank? I would just run the lights, and when algae comes just handle it…. I see no reason why you shouldn’t be able to grow corals. I do no dosing, usually test weekly but currently have not tested in two weeks. I’m learning how to run the tank based off what the corals are saying rather than the numbers. It’s working great so far and I’m not continuously pulling my hair out. I do however stick to consistent water changes, usually doing 5 gallons weekly however last night I did 10 as my nitrates are running 50+… and yes everything is doing fine.

Also, I would remove the dead pieces of coral, idk with me I like keeping a positive vibe to the tank, if something dies take it out. And ultimately just slow down and let the tank evolve

I depends on how much water you’re pushing with the one power head and the return and how many dead spots you have. I COULD run one at higher power but it works better for my tank to run two at lower levels with less dead spots and less high direct flow for some of my corals.
Flow needs may well change as you fill your tank.
