I have the fluval 13.5G and recently(2weeks ago) switched from stock lighting to the new RedSea50 Led light. I have a mix of soft corals, fish, shrimp, snails and a rainbow bubble anemone that has lost all his rainbow and not been Bubbled fully since I got him several months ago. Any light setting suggestions??? Anemone suggestions?? I’m currently running at 50% blues and 10% whites and going through the Normal moon cycle setting they suggest (pictured). Any help appreciated TIA

How long have you had the nem?got a picture? The color sounds like an issue but not having the bubbles is perfectly normal. How long has the tank been running? Dry rock or live? Parameters?

Fwiw bubble tip nems can get up to two feet in diameter and will take over a 13g tank pretty quickly

I just got him about 3-4 weeks ago while I still had stock lights and realized I probably needed to upgrade and switched to the Redsea50... salinity is about 1.021 which I know is low side, I just had my water tested at my lfs a couple days ago and said all was within parameters... he kept rainbow colors for a week or two then slowly faded to that purplish color. I had no idea he would get that big, this is the one a store employee recommended! I have friends with larger tanks however if I need to let him go at some point. I’ve had this tank setup with live rock and live sand for about a year with 60% of the corals and all fish since the beginning all stock fluval biota kit. Blue pic is right now, sorry about the quality, other pic is couple weeks ago stock light soon after getting it. He’s in the back where the tank is against my wall so it’s hard to get a good pic of him atm. Thank you so much for your reply!

Interesting that doesn't look like a rainbow bta at all now. I would he tempted to up the light percentages a bit but I'm not too familiar with that light. What corals do you have?how are they? Parameters?

Biota green alien hands/Sinularia
Biota Lava lamp mushroom
Biota maybe long polyp? toadstool
Biota zoanthids-no name not fancy
Biota Green star polyp
Biota Yuma mushroom
Another random bubbly mushroom not sure the name
2 other corals that look slightly like zoas but are not that I’m unsure the name.

the corals are all doing well! I’ve only killed a sprungs stunner and a green carpet mushroom ever... and pretty sure my anemone killed my peppermint shrimp. No other deaths or issues. The green star polyp and zoas are absolutely THRIVING and spreading like crazy..and I’d say the sinularia and toadstool are a close second doing wonderfully.

And yah he lost all his rainbow color within the first week or two and is now either closed up or only the size of half a plum with his arms mostly in but not stringy at all. I don’t know what to do with him...

The only thing I really regularly measure is the salinity, I’m not sure what all they measured at the store as far as other parameters but I’m sitting low at 1.021. When they tested I was high at 1.026 and went to drastically the other direction because he told me to dump a gallon of distilled which I did slowly, but prob didn’t have time to mix so I didn’t realize til the next morning how much lowered it was.

I wonder if that salinity swing is what ticked it off. Fwiw I keep my tank right around 1.025-1.026 and that is pretty typical for a reef. Your lfs gave you some bad advice there. Also your light may be a bit underpowered for a nem so I'd definitely bump those percentages up

Actually... do you think he may be splitting?

He acted like I was terrible for having it so high lol sounds like I need a new lfs... also I replied to myself by mistake above... do you think those pics look like he maybe started to split?

They do split by tearing themselves like that but I've had dozens of btas split and they always go into hiding behind the rocks for a few days to split. I've never seen one do it in the open (although I have heard of that happening once or twice on this forum)

Ya I've noticed that alot of lfs workers will come up with a confident answer to all my questions, even if they have no clue what they're talking about. Pretty frustrating
