Hi guys,

Currently setting up a fluval 123l after a years worth of success with the fluval evo, which I’m keeping running as well. I’ve been taking my time with this one and following loads of guides in order to make it the best I can, I read that rockwork should be 1-1.5lb per gallon of water, I order 40lbs of carribsea life rock and used all but one piece so I imagine there is about 36lbs in the tank. There is room on the front and both side for an algae magnet scraper to get by.

Looking at photos of other peoples 123l mine seems to be on the heavier side of rock work and wondered if I’ve maybe gone too far or do people just choose not to follow the 1-1.5lb rock per gallon. I really like the look myself but will consider removing some of it does look like too much. Currently have the sand drying on my living room floor after a rinse…

Thanks

Dan

Looks great if you ask me, we had that tank before but ended up hating the bow front as it distorts the view

Ideally I’d have loved to have gone bigger but I’m limited in space until I get my garage converted, hopefully next year, so this was the biggest size I could go, and there wasn’t much choice for AOI aquariums here in the UK. This was my best options, there was a water box one I was eying up but just couldn’t seem to find a uk supplier.

I wouldn’t remove any of it ,looks good and it’s the best for biological filter.

Understood, as you havent filled it yet make sure you seal the plastic to the rear glass, these tanks dont seem well sealed and alot of the water bypasses the floss and rear chambers, some people even block off the lower vents, i didnt as by the time i found out mine had water in it

Thank you for the reassurance, I wanted to make loads of hiding places for the fish too which I’m hoping this much rock provides.

Yeah I heard about that, mine seemed pretty well sealed surprisingly maybe they’ve improved, I have ordered the media baskets and the lower vent blocks so will pop them in before the water goes in. How long you had yours running and how’s it going?
