So I've narrowed in on my first saltwater tank that I'll get for my apartment once I move in a few months. I'm looking for any advice on anything regarding the equipment choices and stocking list.

Waterbox AIO 35.2 (33 gallon 2'x2' cube). I chose this tank since it makes the most sense in case I ever change apartments and is an easier way to test what I like before I go larger.

Fish Stocking List
  • Design Clown Pair
  • A sandsifting Goby paired with a Pistol Shrimp
  • Pink-Streaked or Pygmy Wrasse
  • 2 Banggai Cardinalfish
  • Royal Gramma Basslet
  • Firefish
  • Lawnmower Blenny (If this one would be fine for a the tank size, I'd be fine swapping out either the gramma or firefish if needed, or both for that matter)
Invert Stocking List
  • Pistol Shrimp (as mentioned above)
  • Scarlet Skunk Cleaner Shrimp
  • Dwarf Feather Duster
  • 2 Bubble Tip Anenomes
  • Clean up crew of snails and dwarf hermit crabs
Corals
  • Mix of soft corals, LPS, and zoas
Equipment
  • AI Prime 16HD
  • Waterbox Jumpguard
  • 5 gallon tank for ATO
  • Tunze DOC Comline 9004 Skimmer
  • 2 inTank Media Baskets
  • Inkbird Heating Controller
  • Eheim Ebo Jager Heater 100 Watt
  • 60lbs CaribSea Arag-Alive Sand (Maybe this is too much or little for 3" depth?)
  • 40lbs CaribSea Liferock
  • Sicce Syncra Silent 1.5 Pump 358 GPH
  • XP Aqua Duetto Dual-Sensor ATO
  • BRS 4 Stage Value Plus 75 GPD RO/DI System
  • CPR Aquatic AquaFuge2 Hang on Back Refugium Small
  • Tunze EcoChic Refugium LED 8831
  • AI Nero 3 Wave Maker 2000 GPH
Filter Media (There are 8 trays between the two sides)
  • Filter Floss on each side
  • ChemiPure Blue on each side
  • That leaves 4 trays open, what should I use for those?
  • Algae Barn Small Chaeto Ultimate Refugium Starter Pack for the refugium
I also have various chemicals for dipping corals, salt, cycling materials, and test kits

Another question I have is, with a tank this small (33 gallons), do I go with a separate quarantine tank? Or would something like a CPR Aquatic CITR3 In-Tank Refugium be fine for this? Or would I be fine without one if I buy from trusted sources and just dip corals?

Looks great to me, just my 2 cents, which is all personal preferences:

- I would reduce the fish by 1 or 2, it could get pretty tight in there.
- For inverts: (i) I prefer going crab/hermit-less as they can cause issues with snails in the future, (ii) with the sandbed I'd recommend nassarius snails, (iii) I'd add a conch for the sandbed too, (iv) Trochus and Certihs are great as well, (v) i'd swap out cleaners for blood/fire shrimp - generally nicer looking and better behaved.
- I would definitely dip all the coral
- For fish quarantine, it's a totally different approach that I would recommend reading lots on this forum regarding different perspectives.

We have similar tank set-ups, but your tank is definitely nicer than mine! Looking forward to seeing it come together!

1. Too many fish
2. Too much rock
3. Too much sand
4. Too much nutrient export. Pick fuge or skimmer, not both
5. Get larger heater
6. May need RODI booster pump depending on water pressure in apartment
7. Don't jam chemical media into your baskets if you don't need it or don't know what problem you are solving by adding it
8. Make sure your renters insurance policy covers flooding

I am almost certain that the Tunze 9004 will not fit the sump!
