So I finally got an RODI unit after starting up a new 72gallon. I figured with this much water my trips to big als will have to come to an end
I purchased the unit off Amazon. The “Geekpure” unit seems to be working pretty well after some fighting to set it up.
I haven’t found a lot online and have yet to search the forums for other users who purchased this unit, but for anyone looking to buy this one here’s my input.
I first tried using the push for isolation valve included with the unit. A review on Amazon mentioned it leaked...they were not wrong. Even with Teflon tape it still leaked.
My next attempt was the piercing diverted valve also included. That worked well with some tweaking. I noticed a “small” leak when running the unit and shutting off the water. It wasn’t a big enough leak to cause a serious puddle but enough to annoy me. I have tile floors in my bathroom so if you’re installing it underneath a sink or anywhere over wood I’d advise closing the gaps. I personally put some silicon around every crack and crevice on the valve just to be safe. I haven’t tried using it since I applied the silicon.
I did end up making 10 gallons of RODI water in about 6 or so hours.
All in all I think it’s a pretty good unit for the price and being able to add additional chambers is always a plus in the future.
