Yes, when I started I ran 2 Fluval 407's one with sponges and one with live rock. It is possible to run HOB I always run more filter than tank when doing that though its just easer.

I would just get an Aquaclear 70 power filter and call it a day. Throw a couple sponges in the media basket, maybe some GAC if need be and your set. GL

I'm a big fan of canisters because they have less bypass therefore better filtration first pass and hold considerably more capacity. FX2 likely big enough. I'm going to be running that on a 20g although that's temporary and will eventually move to a 40 cube.

However, will be ran as hybrid system where canister will pull water then return through an AquaClear 110 converted to a Fuge or ATS to resolve remaining inorganic as well as resolve excess co2 and better surface gas exchange as it return the water over a wider area. Placed on one end will send flow across the tank.

AquaClear won't have anything protruding in tank and will also house a pair of titanium heaters thereby reducing what I see in tank.

I have a 75 Gallon which I'm running 1x Seachem Tidal 110,, 1 x Seachem Tidal 55, and a Aquaclear 70/refugium.

I was running two 110s but dropped to a 55 to make room for the Aquaclear. So far so good, they are super easy to clean.

Plus side to the Tidals are you don't have to worry about them starting up again after a power outage.
