First time owning a foxface, I know they can change color. I went down to see my foxface tonight and notice his color was bacially different. His black was now almost white but still had a lot of blacks is this normal behavior at night?

I have a magnificent, he is super skittish as these usually are. He can change his colors to a pale white, gray spotted, to almost black when he wants to and back to his normal color. Kinda sounds to me like he is stressed and acclimating. Mine flipped out and went all black the first week or two I had him every time my dogs barked. He is used to it now but any little thing stresses them out they act like the sky is falling lol. My one before was a one spot and she was the same way. The algae clip scared her so bad until she got used to its movement in the flow lol. Love these guys but dang are they stressballs all the time!

Yes they change all the time. At night they look white as well as when they are not happy. I have had one in qt going on a month. He is white at light all as well as when I do water changes. They are great additions to any tank. They love algae.

Does he look somewhat like the top one? I’ve noticed that the darker rabbitfish go somewhat whiter whilst lighter rabbits go more dark.

Yep, I just added the second last night and haven’t had regrets yet. They happily swim near eachother and have eachother in their line of sight most of the time.

I went for the Tongan Black to match my Magnificent with the opposite looks yet both peace keepers.

At night they will go hide and take on a very camouflaged look. Mine would blend in very well with the live rock. A big change from yellow to an almost black and white

If you only added him a day ago, don’t worry. Rabbitfish are skittish fish in general, they may be venomous but they’re the shyest species you’ll likely come across when it comes to establishing.
My Tongan Black doesn’t trust me completely and does hide (I only added him yesterday). My magnificent however, seems to be happily helping him to become braver as he has been in the tank for 4+ years now so he knows what’s good vs bad.
I mean, I think this photo shows what I mean. The Tongan is hiding yet the Magnificent is hanging around him as if to say ‘come and play’.
