So I’ve had this pair of clownfish (long fin and black storm). Up until this point they have been paired and have had no issues with them for 10 straight months. All of a sudden the female (black storm) started attacking the long fin, I didn’t think too much of so I left it alone but the next morning I woke up and found the male (long fin) ripped to shreds. I quickly took him out and brought him to my friends tank but unfortunately he didn’t make it. I am now just very confused as to why this even happened like I said they have been paired and had no issues for 10 months and this sorta just came out of no where. Did I do something wrong? Is there why thing I should’ve done? Any advice on what to do with the lone female now? Anything helps.

this is unfortunate but known as clown hierchy. The larger often female will be territorial, bully the male, corner it, take over an area(s) of tank and steal all the food why its often larger. and up to point of death. The moment you see aggression, you want to isolate female and allow male to eat and get comfy within tank for about 2 weeks. Female may go right back to it when returned to the tank

Yep. My old gal is no longer with me, but in the ten years I had her, she killed 3 males she had paired with for over a year each. Meanwhile my mocha pair has been happily married for almost as long.

I’ll keep my fingers crossed my female clown behaves herself. The pair have been together for close to 3 years now and she defends the smaller male when the Tomini gets overly aggressive.

Happens frequently.
Clowns can/will/do lose it on a whim.
Don't beat yourself up.
Yep...I went through quite a few clowns In my 2+ years....

Had a pair of Snowflakes that did well for a while, but eventually female killed male. Now I have 1 Snowflake female and 1 Gladiator clown who absolutely love each other and try to make babies every 2 weeks or so.

It happens..don't be upset. It takes some time.. sometimes!

Ya, I had 2 that started out as juveniles and seemed paired for 1 1/2 years. Got home from vacation and the one was beating the other to death. I separated it but it was to far gone. I have no clue why it happened. Introduced another about a half inch larger and they too seem paired.

It happens. You may do well with a very small male clown. I would go with the same type of clown as your female.
