Feeding while away...

I will be away 7 days and my fish only eat frozen food. I'm working on having someone come in but it may not be everyday. Any suggestions as to get them fed?

My take is that a lot depends on the age of the tank. If the tank is established, there should be more than enough food to keep them going for a week. They'll need to change their habits a bit, but they won't starve. A new, sterile tank is a different matter.

You should be fine with every other day with those fish. I make pre-portioned cups of frozen food for my pet sitter to feed so there is not any confusion on how much food to put in.

I also feed my fish frozen food. When I go out of town, I divide a frozen cube of food into little cups and tell the person who checks on my tank to feed one of those cups the days they are there. Now, I don't have the person come every day, it's every 2 days my tank gets fed, and I have never had issues doing this.

Stick an auto feeder on the tank and have it drop a small amount of pellets at the same time every day.

The fish get used to the feeder and wait under it at the right time for their meal.

I was away for 5 nights recently and used a flake feeder 4x's daily to feed while I was away.

Just have the feeder dump the flakes into a feeding ring. The flakes will float at first. Without a ring, most of the food will just float over to the overflow and into the sump. As it saturates in the ring, it will float around the water column and get picked up by the fish.

If you want to have someone come in and supplement feeding with frozen, you can do that too.

Don't over-think this and do a good sized water change when you get home.

How long till you leave? I think it would be in your benefit for the long run to train them to eat dry food from an auto feeder. Do you have a controller? I run a Plank feeding Reef Jerky mixed with TDO pellets and Hikari Seaweed feeding twice a day (soon to be 5-6x daily for Anthias)

Hi, my situation was a little different than yours. My fish eats pellest but I also had to be away for a week. I maneged to get them only one portion of pellets while I was away. All 4 fish survived and didn't seem any skineer also. My tank is small, so shouldn't have a lot of available food source. My take is you will be fine even if you don't feed. Just overfeed a little prior to your absence
