Had my I'm relatively new to corals, and in general, all the different names are enough to make my head spin. Anyway, the algorithm decided I needed to be shown "Bulbasaur Favia" and disregarding that growing up he was usually my starter Pokémon :grinning-face-with-sweat: , I do actually like the color combination. However, it seems that it is only available in Canada, at least under that name. Is it possible the same coral is sold under different names? "Watermelon Favia" and "Christmas Favia" are extremely similar to my eye. I seems like most of the difference in color in the photos below could come down to the lighting it was photographed under, right? Are these the same coral being marketed differently or are there actual differences that I'm just not seeing? Thanks!

They're all just trade names slapped on similar-looking corals. There is likely little-to-no difference between them coloration-wise. Technically, they're not even Favia, as all Favia from the Indo-Pacific, where all the stony corals in the hobby come from, were reclassified to various other genera, the majority of which being moved to Dipsastraea.

Yeah, they're technically different, but the differences are so small as to be practically nonexistent (this is something I've seen with a lot of zoa morphs - only diehard collectors can really tell the difference in most cases, and the difference may disappear or change in a new tank/under new conditions).

In this case, going by the pics shared:

-the Bulbasaur has the bright red surrounded by dark red and with some moderately bright red out the very outskirts/tips of the circle by where the red meets the green

-the Watermelon has the bright red surrounded by moderately bright red and no unique color for the tips

-the Christmas has the bright red surrounded by dark red with no unique color for the tips.
