Hello all,

Any experience using Coral Snow Plus?

I am sleep deprived at the time and misread the instructions and overdosed my tank (added 60 mL when I should have added 12 mL). I am worried that I’ve just nuked the system and will lose most of my Coral over the next few days. Fish are all fine and I don’t expect them to be affected at all thankfully so there’s that. All of my parameters are stable post addition (trident readouts). No effects on the big three or pH. I won’t test for phosphate or nitrate till later in the day since I’ll likely get a false reading.

Any experience with this product and it’s effects?

I did just about the same thing overdosed Coral Snow...about 60ml+ as well....! Calcium and Magnesium are extremely high right now.. Mag- 1590+ and Calcium just above 500+.. I just noticed what I have done, it has been 7 days now. I do have a few frag sticks that are going bald as of now ( just 2 that I have in my 90gal ) but it's still on my system with a 120gal and a 60gal fuge. I am going to start exercising many smaller water changes maybe as much as every other day. To drop Mag and Cal... PH is holding 8.18, Alk is still maintaining 9.2 via AFR, I also cut it's dosing back 10mins down to 30 mins dosing time vs 40mins. Salinity was also a bit high as well... dropped it down to 1.025 + 1/2... Would these be a solid correction on my part?.... I also am searching for any help with this demise. Thank you for any help and/or any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hi! Sorry this happened to you as well!

I think your corrective strategy is sound.

For myself, I have stopped using coral snow plus altogether. I saw negative effects on my SPS in the long run. I have used coral snow without negative side effects but the plus contains lanthanum chloride I believe and I definitely saw negative effects there.

Man I wont do that again... gezzzzz. Right now I am testing Mag/1590 and Cal right at 500 and I don't know why either are so high. GHA problem I am addressing. But I do dose AFR alk has been right at 9.2 to 9.4 for months.. I really don't know how to lower my Mag and Cal...? Coral Snow is off my list as OF NOW AS WELL... LOL

Water change! It’s normal for calcium to creep up with all for reef or kalk. It’s a 50/50 dose compared to 3 part! Water changes are your best friend!

I would do frequent water changes and stop dosing AFR for a few days until your calcium and magnesium go back to normal. It is also possible that with your corals not doing well that consumption has gone down leading to issues. You may need to retitrate AFR dose.
