Most zoas are on the menu, although a few have been avoided so far. I dont have any palys really, but some of the larger zoas seem to be less enticing. Might give palys a try.

Haven't tried a torch, but mine did nip at a frogspawn, so I am not too confident in torch. Gorgonians are occasionally nipped, but dont seem too enticing so far. Leathers and mushrooms seem to be the most safe.

I love the fish, and decided when i got it i was going to work the corals around the emperor. Likely going to turn into a leather/mushroom dominated tank.
Ricordea and yumas seem to be safe.

I’ve been thinking of expanding in the list of corals to add .
So far sps are ok .

a green maze coral is ok ,
Duncan’s are ok but he knocks them over .
I want to add a clam .
squamosa or maxima

anyone with clams and emperors ?
@ca1ore

I had a juvenile Emperor that destroyed my clams; he had to be removed as he was killing them (maxima and squamosa)

Has anyone noticed a difference in aggression depending on the emperor's developmental stage? Mine got particularly aggressive as he started to transition to adult phase, I'd imagine there's a hormone surge that could be responsible.

Mine is still a juvi, but growing fast! He just started showing dominance toward a chalk basslet, yet allows the CBB to push him out of the way. haha, pry not for long.

Is yours aggressive around food or any fish that is in the way?

He's more aggressive around his little territory which is a rock overhang. Eats like a pig but having multiple angels I feed often and haven't noticed much food aggression.

BoTom is nearing completion of his/her transition. I was doing some research and found out how to determine the sex of Emperor's based on the coloration in their face. A male will have more blue in the front of their eye mask and a females will be more grey.

I had to try again since my adult attacked my juvenile. So I sold the adult and it is amazing how easy it is to sell an adult to a fish store these days with all of the shortages!
So I found another juvenile on DD with blemishes. In 11 days it has cleared up nicely. FYI I sometimes use my office tank as an Isolation tank. Of course I had to remove the two Welso's to the sump.

When will you introduce the juveniles to each other?
I forget, have you paired emperors before?

I typed out a long response and then I went to use my iPad to take a new pic and my message got erased! So dumb. Here’s some pics. I can give more info later if wanted. Had for just over a year.

Good looking Emperor and tank you have there!

Appears to be an Emp safe tank, mostly sps.
Any corals that you have in danger? (Are those Pulsing Xenia?)

Did you name him/her?

What do you like most about your Emp?
Thanks for sharing. :)

The first juvenile didn’t make it. First time that’s ever happened to me.

I lost the first juvenile it did not recover from her injuries.
The last time I had two juveniles/changing

This was my first time with an adult and juvenile which went perfect. The adult I grew from a juvenile and then one day he refused to eat. I had him about six years. I got away from Imperators and have gone with Regals till recently. When I had my 180 Imperators didn't fit so sold them as a sub-adult

It is so interesting how the transition points vary from fish to fish. I see some start in the face, some in the middle, and some in the tail. I wonder if there is an external influence that determines this...
Was going back through the thread looking for names given to imps (DA, BoTom, Peter the Great, Boss, General Tso) and your comment jumped out.

Transition starting points: face, middle, tail...
Is it due to region collected/genetics, gender or external influence of aquarium environment.

A survey on where transition started would be interesting.
