I was surfing around the other day and read a click bate article about all the multiple uses for eggshells and why not to throw them away. There where multiple mentions about how they are a great source of calcium carbonate for this and for that. Then it clicked! if its such a great source of calcium carbonate could it not be used as calcium reactor media?! Having a family of 5, we goo through a lot of eggs and it wouldn't take long to be able to fill my reactor with pulverized shells. What do you think? You would probably have to bake them or something to get rid of the membrane and sterilize, but other than that I see no downfall. I even managed to come across this in a quick search. Turns out they are %97 calcium carbonate and %3 magnesium.

Think I might start collecting and give it a try next time I need to add media.
