I dunno, and at this point I'm too afraid to ask
Official entry: I know this is going to sound weird, but I'd actually love this for a freshwater tank idea I've been putting together. I don't get why you don't see porous rock in a lot of FW aquariums, I'm pretty sure it would still garner plenty of bacteria and work as a pH buffer just as well as live rock in a reef tank.
I guess maybe it's just the Reefy look that people don't want unless it's SW fish?
