You are correct after re reading. Was on a saltwater forum that led me to that, I’m not a expert by any means I just thought to post something that other people and myself have seemed to work and wanted opinions from other
Did your reading show you results as far back as 20 years ago DEBUNKING the ginger cure?

I'm not trying to be harsh, but posting blatantly false information (intentionally or out of ignorance) is not helping the hobby.

There’s a reason I asked if anyone else has tried this, to get opinions.

Many years ago I posted a thread in jest about my success in treating ich by floating a potato in the display; though perhaps the same ‘many people’ who are successfully using ginger to treat ich are the same that failed to appreciate my attempt at satire. I even detailed how to select the proper potatoes and specifically how to peel it for maximum efficacy. I, at least, found it amusing.

I think, fundamentally, people don’t understand the difference between correlation and causation.

ich is actually not all that hard to manage if you do a few things. QT all new fish, mostly so you can get them eating and build up their slime coats. Plopping a new, stressed fish into the display is just asking for trouble, use a properly sized UV set for sterilization and feed the fish well, I have ich in my system, have had for many years, sadly, the spud did not help.

Oversized UV and heavy feeding > Kitchen spices for managing Ich.
Plus, the amount of spices a fish could actually ingest when a "pinch" is added to a tank wouldn't be enough to do, well, anything! Lol

No, there is truth to your floating spud method being a cure all.
Potatoes are 85% starch and sugar content. When placed in a brine solution, E.g. our saltwater tank, this starch/sugar combo reacts with any free ammonia. This chemical reaction changes the hydrocarbon linking within the cell structure of the spud. Combine this with the heat of any lights and pumps, our overflow standpipes act as a “still” Once this preprocessed solution reaches the sumps bio chamber, the bacteria will act as a fermenter. This newly fermented solution along with the micro-bubbles created by the skimmer is then pumped back to the display tank. Thus, self dosing vodka. Or something like that, I have no idea.

Not a fish medic, but a human doctor. Boosting immunity works best as prophylaxis, not cure of many diseases, especially parasitic, bacterial or fungal. There are many ways of boosting immunity, like healthy diet and exercise, lack of stress. That equally applies to humans and fish.
Once you are infected, I would not trust boosting immunity alone to eradicate the problem. Medications are necessary. Marine Ich can kill fish before immunity is boosted.

I just keep my parameters very stable and feed my fish well. Ich might show for a day or so with a new introduction (but rarely) but then goes away. My fish are very fat an healthy, and I have a big Hippo and Purple tang (among many other breeds) that are all visibly ich-free and over 7 years old. I tried to go the extra quarantine tank method as many experts swear by, but lost so many that way - it broke my heart. Articles on this site warn of introducing horrible diseases that will wipe-out all my fish, but maybe I am just lucky and have good LFS's (and am careful to pick healthy specimens).
