Just wanted to share something I found on YouTube and has worked! Noticed some white spots on my tang the other day which I presumed to be ich. Found a YouTuber who uses ground ginger. All the comments were positive and I did some more research on it found out ginger has been used for parasites in humans for hundreds of years. It is also coral safe for anyone wondering, ive been putting a pinch of it everyday in my tank once a day for 4 days and and the spots are complete gone! Has anyone else used this? Here are some before and after pictures…

Given the life cycle of ich, just because you no longer see spots on the fish doesn't mean the ich is gone.

*And ginger, in humans, acts in the GI tract, potentially helping kill intestinal parasites. There's nothing in any research I've seen saying it works on epidermal parasites. If you know of such literature, I'd be interested in reading it.

Even if ginger does kill parasites, I can't image that a pinch for four days would be a high enough concentration to do anything. I am guessing you are seeing the natural progression of the ich life cycle. They fall off and reproduce. 4 days isn't long enough for anything to completely interrupt the life cycle. Ich has to be introduced into the tank.....definitely does not exist in every tank :)

As far as I know, ginger is not used in any commercial ich medications. It has been used to lower (not eliminate) parasites orally in people.

As mentioned, light marine ich infections often come and go on their own, so determining cause and effect is difficult.
