In this video I install the Avast Marine K1 Kalk stirrer to start dosing kalkwasser in my reef tank. I’m using the TUNZE ATO pump to feed the stirrer.

If you have a small tank or frequent evaporation fluctuations you will want to feed your Kalk Stirrer with a dosing pump (peristaltic pump). In my case this method will work fine for me as I have a large system that can handle the excess kalk if anything were to go wrong with the ATO. I also live in Florida and do not have any evaporation fluctuations throughout the year.

Thank you for subscribing and happy reefing!

Can the stirrer sit in the sump itself (i.e. with the bottom half submerged)?
Yes, I have my kalk stirrer submerged. Check out the video.

Avast Marine now offers the reverse syphon hole on the hardware that feeds into the stirrer so the drilling that I did in the video is no longer needed.
