i purchased a red see roller matt , the previous owner had it connected to the overflow line wich was feeding water into his sump , i have a different setup where that will not work.
Can i just sit the roller matt in my sump? and also how does it work? is it supposed to constantly roll or is it supposed to roll a little every now and then ? ive never had one before and would appreciate the tips thanks ...

Tank water needs to flow into it so that it can remove particles from the water. (like a filter sock)

As the mat clogs the water level in it will rise and trigger the roller to move clean mat into position. This will lower the water level in it and the process repeats.

So yes, water does need to be flowing into it. :)
