It wants a flat surface to spread out on, it grows up after it grows/encrusts out.

I will leave them on well inspected plugs and i scrape them clean, I will get faster growth leaving them on the plug unless they are fresh cuts, but everything dipped and cleaned, I guess personal preference on everything.

I dont mind a plug on the rock because it won't be seen long and it's a good flat start for the frag.

I always try to remove vendor plugs prior to dipping. However, if fully encrusted, I'll sometimes just leave them depending on the value of the coral.

The upside down plug also gives way better waterflow at the base of the frag, and way less surface area for algae to be a problem (and they get the frag up off the rock if you've got algae issues).

@Charlie’s Frags & @homer1475 - why are you mounting them on the plug upside down? I have a few frags I bought from another person and they were mounted that way.
curious…..

corey

I saw @Charlie’s Frags post about it one time, and why he does it(as explained above), and I have started doing it that way. It's also way easier to mount the plug to the rocks with a larger flat surface.

Never though of it this way, but your right.

Do you have any that ever grow down onto the rock, or do they just stay on a little frag plug pedestal?
