Do SPS corals occur along side macro algaes in the wild?

Forgive my ignorance, but I have never been to a "real" reef/scuba dived/etc. . . That said, in the video's I've seen of reefs it seems like a lot of big SPS reefs don't have a lot of macros?

Again, this may be a stupid question. . . but it is an honest one.

In the wild, SPS grow separate from macro algae because the algae will shadow the light loving SPS
