I have a Hydra 26 and now my power supply looks like it went out. Do you need to replace the lights eventually? What would be a good replacement light? I have a red sea max e 170.

You don't need to replace them until they stop working. If you want to replace them, I can list some lights if you let me know what features, shimmer, etc. you like.

Everything looses efficiency over time, but most people get around it by turning the power up. Your corals won’t care about a 10-20 par loss over a year, but they will care about a 100 par loss over 6 years, but again, most just get around this by turning the intensity up.

Every light setup fades at a different rate of fade, but honestly most well set up leds will last for at least 5 years. It’s why you still see kessil 360we lights still being sold for over $200 per light, even though they were discontinued years ago.

Ironic. The Kessil 360WE is the light that I found that does not generally last for 5 years …. At least, they have not for me. Most failed within 3 years. I replace d them with the 360x, which has done better, but still not great. My Radion G4 pros have been much more enduring.

I am leaning towards the Radions Xr15 G6 Blue. I am curious though if it will mount ok for the Red Sea Max E 170

Prepare to be disappointed if your only getting one

As time went on they kept changing the fixture and the latest has the best blending but least amount of par. It’s basically a nano light by itself. On a full size reef you need 1 xr15 per 12-18” in diameter. You probably would need two.

IMO it’s drastically overpriced for what you get

A single xr30 is a better fit for a 24” tank

Did you try giving them a good cleaning and blowing everything out with a compressor?

Ok, this is weird. When I unplug the Hydra the power supply light goes on. When I plug it on the light goes off. Is this a bad power supply or the Hydra is no good?

Yes I have a meter. I will test power supply now

Remember to set to dc :)
I’m not saying you don’t know how to use it. It’s just a reminder. I wasnt thinking one day and was rushing and forgot to change my meters dial and blew it up

I've only let the smoke out of mine checking amperage. I used to keep a pack of fuses just incase

read 35.6V output says on power supply 36V. No load though of course.
Well. That’s expected but doesn’t prove anything.

What’s interesting is that with no load you get the light on the power supply but with load the little led light goes out?
