How likely is it that a small white maroon gold nugget will turn yellow overtime? I like both white and yellow, but it would be pretty cool to see a white one transform into yellow.

I’ve only seen the white variants at the LFS.

There is a 1.5” gold Maroon at a LFS that I frequent and I would love to have it except that it is a maroon (and often aggressive) species. It is slowly becoming more yellow in the “white “ spots on its sides.

I don’t know if all verities will turn gold? With the mixed fish becoming more common I don’t know what to expect.

I’ve never seen one that’s all gold regardless of size, or even mostly gold. I would say get it if you see one for sure!

I wanted it when I saw it but I thought it was a percula at first glance. It might be peaceful but I have been thinking about trying it out anyway.

I think I will get it if it’s still available later this week when I’m in the neighborhood.
(I travel around SoCal for work and I am always stalking about the LFS on the pathway between home and the office.)

Sometimes you just need to take a chance on a specimen that is outstanding!

lol. This site certainly fuels the addiction. I’m in SoCal too. If he becomes too aggressive in your tank, I will take him.

Likely! My male, his name is Little Guy, is a gold nugget. Got him the size of a dime and had him a year now. His face and just behind his gills are gold, the rest of him is an off white-yellowish color as he changes. Its not noticeable at first then when he reached about an inch he started turning! Its cool. He is very pretty.

Very good then. That makes the path forward much smoother!

My female started out white and now she’s mostly gold. It’s taken 4 months for the change. Very cool transformation.
Pictures please!

Kinda hard to get her in pictures because she just gets mad and retreats into her anemone.

I see more gold daily. I’m sure by the end of it she’ll be all gold.

This is the male:

He barely has any gold but it’s starting to come in. I see the hints of it.

They were both completely white four months ago when I got them.

Just to be sure, you are talking about the golden nugget and not golden stripe maroon - see below, right?

Yup, I thought it was a snowflake, or whatever name they hang on the white sided percula crosses and almost brought it home until I realized it was some kind of Maroon breed. I love the gold maroons also, just not eager to deal with the maroon aggression towards tank mates and cleaning hands.

Might toss the dice again, but truly hoping someone picks up the devil I spotted up in Orange County. :rolling-on-the-floor-laughing:
