I ran this on my freshwater tanks for years, don't know if its used for saltwater but I don't see why not. If you run your powerheads at a steady speed, this can save a few bucks when you have one go bad. You will not have to purchase the complete powerhead and control assembly, just the powerhead. It will take some knowledge of wiring and connector assembly. This is composed of a 12 or 24 volt power supply, and a voltage controller. I don't recommend using an old power brick because most are amperage restricted. Depends on your powerhead amp draw, you can run 2 to 4 power heads on this.

When i mounted my speed controller, I drilled a hole in the side of the mounting cover for the knob. I used my voltmeter to measure voltage at lowest setting and highest to mark the cover.

On a side note this can be used to control a countless number of products economically.

This is a good idea - except that some manufacturers (Jebao MLW) don't sell just the powerhead, you have to buy the controller (which is not expensive)..

I don't run my powerheads in constant mode - so I need a sine wave controller... However all my DIY devices take as input 12v (1x alk monitor with 3 heads, and 4 dosers each with 3 heads) - so I run them off a single high AMP 12v PSU - this saves space, complexity and cabling issues.
