Howdy, I see a lot of talk about these mushrooms as hard to control. Are they really? Is it not fairly straightforward to keep them under control or am I just hoping it is?
Tank is a 20g cube.

This is the one I want to get; Looks amazing to me.

From personal experience of having a rather fast reproducing discosoma in a 20 gallon, as long as you keep on top of it it’s not much of a hassle. Keep it deprecated on its own rock in the case that it does take over. - kali

Thanks to you both. When you say keep on top of it, do you mean frag it to keep it controlled?
I have an area I want to place it in that would be fairly low light and flow, will this be ok?

Should be fine. And, I would place some rubble next to rock such that it would grow over it (pedal laceration) and then you've got a new frag.

May I ask what your concern is?

They aren't aptasia, they won't infect and take over your whole tank.

That's a beautiful Shroom. I wouldn't think twice about adding it to my collection.

Nothing to worry about they just grow and reproduce fast once they fill up an "island rock" you place them on they will break loose and float around the tank. They just can possibly fill up all your usable rock space in a short time and sting nearby corals or vice versa..

but usually they are not as vibrant and cool looking as that one I would definitely get it!

It's rhodactis shrooms you want to watch out for. Rhodactis can grow like crazy and they also sting.

Discoma can also grow fast, but I've never had them burn corals like rhodactis do.

Only concern is it spreading like wildfire. Have seen pics where disco soma has completely taken over a reef. I suppose that's more on the reefer than the mushroom though

That's 100% on the reef keeper. No mushroom has the ability to TAKE OVER a tank unless the reefer let's them.

Thousands of tanks on this forum have GSP in them. That stuff will grow out of control UNLESS we do our job.

That's a beautiful disco. If you don't buy it, pass me over the link.

Ha!
New Dawn Aquaculture is in Canada so the link wont help you unfortunately. The silly name is Fruity Pebbles Discosoma if that helps. I think Tidal Gardens had them at some point as well

WOW! I never know mushroom sting. I had an Og bounce sting my rhodactis and I out out a post and lots of people that collect shroom said that count happen! That they dont sting.

I have a tank thatthe whole back wall is all tonga in different cool shapes and a bridge in the middle connecting them. I have been racking my brains on what to put there. I won some 4 different type of cyphaestra and thought I would do that but I hate just encrusting corals that just change the look of the rock and give it a pattern so to speak. I read they do well in low light and top of tongas is high but bottom is low. I will attach pics!

I really only have highend investment shrooms so not sure if that wise.

Could eclectus jawbreakers multiply on that kind of vertically tonga rock? I also have a candy crush and vdm jawbreakers. I thought of putting them there. I won a stripper lips bright pink disco from Aquasd and was going to see if they would let me xchange for something else.

Since the rocks but up to each other do you guys think this is a bad idea?

oh, I wanted to put assorted variety of shrooms on rock but you guys say they sting!

Help Please! I have had this tank for 5 years and cant figure out!
