Following along. I'm really interested in how your Reef Pi turns out. I want to do build one myself but I've never built anything like that before.
What kind of control options are you planning for it?

I'm going for lights on/off, pumps on/off, temperature monitor, pH monitor, salinity monitor when that become available, camera control/access, ATO functions, event/parameter logging. As the tech evolves, I'll decide what other things to build in. At some point I'll probably build a doser as well.

Can you run all that stuff off of 1 raspberry pi unit or are you going to have to do multiples?
I believe you can run it all off of one. I think i have 28 DPIO pins to use, with 9 currently tied into power control, which will provide pump, lights, heater control. In fact, you can run multiple temp probes from the same pins. Check out the modules on the adafruit website. Ranjib is the lead developer. He has a massive thread on R2R on the reef-pi.

Yeah I've seen the thread. I'm on page 12 of 300 something. Tons of info there to sift through.
Best bet is to just hit the adafruit site, and ask your question as is on the thread. It is a lot to parse through, and things are constantly changing as development moves forward, bugs are worked out, and new solutions are tested.

The stand has new doors, is painted, and is ready for my daughter's art to be added. After we do the art, I'll put it in place, drop in the sump, and being plumbing from the back into the sump, and from the sump to the returns. I'll also be mounting the UV sterilizer, somewhere. Hard to picture where until i get more things in place.
