Hi, I am going to be posting my journey of setting up my "coral farm". The goal of the whole system is to have it be able to pay for itself and the cost of building it. Half the reason for setting this up is because I love the hobby, and I want to make it my full-time job if it becomes successful. The only way I will know if it will be successful or not is if I try it out. I have thought about this for a while now and have been researching and preparing for a while now. I have a mentor who will be helping me through my whole journey.
I plan to have three systems, each consisting of a sump and a frag tank above it. Each system will have two tanks, each consisting of a display/frag tank and a sump. I plan to build the stands and acquire the tanks slowly. I currently have one 125-gallon, two 100-gallon, one fiberglass trough, one 75-gallon, and one lowboy. I don't have every tank right now, but I plan to have them set up and not use all of them at once. I will set up a qt tank off to the side somewhere to minimize the pests and unwanted algae to get inside the main system.
System 1: Growing SPS
System 2: Soft corals
System 3: Frags/LPS/anything else
The third row of tanks would consist of random tanks since I would like to breed clownfish, not for the money but just for the fun of it. I have bred axolotls in the past, and I enjoyed it, and now I want to try to do it with clownfish.
Goals:
1. Set everything up
2. Add redundancy everywhere
3. Going to convention shows as a seller
4. Being able to buy from a wholesaler for coral, I can't grow myself
