I took down someone else's 220 gal to setup in my house. As part of repurposing the tank for my use, I no longer need an 8" x 8" x 1" bioplate or ~50 lbs of live sand that came with the tank. I have had the plate and sand for a little over a week, never out of water for more than a couple minutes, and with constant flow and aeration. Water is testing with essentially undetectable nitrates, and has not emanated any foul odor, so I am sure the plate survived the move just fine. There were some asterinas in the sand, but otherwise I haven't noticed any undesirable hitchhikers. The gentleman from whom I acquired the tank has been in the hobby for decades. Some of his old fish are swimming at the Tampa Aquarium right now. He was only getting rid of his 220 because he went to a 400, and from what I saw at his house, he practices excellent husbandry.
If anyone in the Sarasota/Tampa/Fort Myers area is looking to get a tank setup and wants to fast cycle it, I am happy to give the bioplate and/or sand away. I hate to waste the bioplate in particular. Donations of a frag or two, or a reef-safe fish/invert would be appreciated but not required.
