I got this crab over a year ago and have never noticed him messing with anything. Recently i have had two chromis come up missing and seen him picking at snails. I don't know if he's doing his job or finding himself a job to do by eating my livestock.

Maybe a fiddler? It looks like it has pointed claws the usual rule of thumb is those are predators.

It's definitely not a fiddler crab, it looks like it is sifting the sand in the second photo...when he was picking at the snail was he picking algae off of its shell or did he flip it over and tear out the meat? How big is it? If you have had it for over a year it probably isn't doing much harm in your system but if you are absolutely worried you could sump him. It is difficult for a crab to catch a healthy fish and they are more of a scavenger and an opportunistic feeder.

I have a solana tank and as it is now he climbs the black wall in the back and gets into the filtration chambers then climbs back into the tank. I have seen him pick algae off the shells but the one time he had a snail flipped over and prying at the meat....the question is i hadn't seen him doing that since and i am not sure that he just wasn't taking advantage of a dead snail or if he killed it.

Hemigrapsus sanguineus I found it on a wide database of saltwater crab species and he is known for turning predatory while being oppurtunistic my husband and I have plans at catching him again in his adventures of climbing out of the tank and relocating him to more suitable living area
