Are you saying this fixture is not designed for 250w?
That cayman(I'm pretty sure, I have 3) pendant is fine. It's the reef brite ballast that has unique connector. That fixture would plug right into a Hamilton, pfo, aqua medic ballast

I would not run the 250 watt bulbs at 175 watts. The bulb isn’t designed for that and will likely cause failure.
Incorrect. I contacted Hamilton a few years ago about it . They gave it there blessings and pointed out in fact they at the time sold dimmable electric ballasts . And I ran 250 watt DE . Bulbs at 175 and no problems .

Whatcouldgowrong wait till you see what happens when you take LEDs off of an aquarium. Then mount some metal halides over the aquarium. Everything will love it not just acropora. But even leathers all switch to a higher gear . Of course acros like it but wait until simple mushrooms expand to 50% bigger and start getting bounces . Wait till you leathers start dropping peace’s and reproducing. I made a thread . metal halides are the bomb .

What would be your suggestion to fix my dilemma ?
My 1st choice would be to buy these m80 ballasts(with pendants or not) and be done. They are the best, run at 300w, highly sought after. The only reason I haven't taken them is because I have a handful of spares and am trying to give someone else a shot at them. But it's been weeks,my finger is itching..
They do run different bulbs though, so you need to pay attention to that. This is the proper ballast for radium and pheonix bulbs(some ushio also).
My 2nd option would be to cut and splice. Just get er done.

Offer him something extra to box them up and ship.. that price is a steal. Even a bare ballast kit is about a hundred each, but that's no m80 or no box that its assembled in. They don't make new m80 at all anymore
