I think it's a non-issue for reef aquaria. Microplastics are common byproducts from things such as polyester clothing and the "grit" in some facial and body scrub soaps. They also occur from the breakdown and degradation of thin single-use plastics, such as water bottles or Styrofoam, from forces and conditions in the ocean that are much more powerful and prevalent than they are in an aquarium.
