It seems that a coral frag tank and a coral/ invert quarantine tank are very similar. There aren't any meds used in a coral/invert QT, so aren't they the same thing? If I'm missing something here, let me know!

I was going to setup a 20g long coral/invert QT and thought I might just keep it running full time and but some small frags and let them grow out for longer than the 76 quarantine days.

That's what I have done. The only difference I have noticed between the two is a lot of people like to have a couple small fish in their frag tanks, I guess for the poop. For a coral/invert QT to serve its purpose properly it has to be fallow.

This winter I plan to set up a coral QT / grow out much like @Idoc's idea, it's a solid extension of a QT plan.

Strictly from local experience, many seem to run frag tanks with the wrasses / damsels primarily for pest control, the fish poo mojo that corals would make use of is just a bonus. I've also noticed that unfortunately many don't really care about spreading ich or pests to other tanks, just that the corals look good for sale.

The nice thing about the coral/invert QT is that the timer doesn't keep resetting, and only a two day stint in a "transition" tank if you want to call it that to kill off any spawned theronts is required to ensure ich doesn't transfer out on 76 day frags / inverts.
