I'm not going to anemone route for a few reasons, so hoping as my frogspawns and hammer corals get larger and more dense, my clownfish will decide to host these corals - reaching out here to see if anyone has had clowns host such corals before?

Mine host in one of my Torch's. They chose my most expensive OG Holy Grail too. Doesn't seem to tick it off too much though as the torch has gotten used to it. I have Hammers nearby and they don't go near them.

It has never happened to me, as my clown loves my toadstoll (even though I have 6 rainbow BTAs in my tank), which is pretty common with captive bred clowns. I have heard of clowns hurting or even killing torches and the like, as they are not "built" to host.

I've seen them host all kinds of stuff, including frogspawn and hammers. I don't think those corals necessarily enjoy that, but I don't speak coral, so there's no way of knowing for sure. :face-with-tears-of-joy:

My clowns in my first tank loved my toadstool, and it seemed to move them, too! It grew and grew. My current clowns straight-up ignore my big, awesome CSBTA and choose to live in the small glob of hair algae on the back of my tank (I don't remove it because I don't want them to be homeless).

Yes it's possible for the clown to host them. However if you have other corals in the tank that are "hostable" to the clowns, they'll pick their favorite and there is no changing that. The corals won't like it, but in most cases the coral starts to get used to it as long as the clown isn't hosting to aggressively or causing damage.

They will host just about anything that looks good to them. I have a pair in my tank hosting an isolated rock of Frozen Apple Zoa.

seconded on them hosting anything
especially if they are captive bred, i had one trying to host a magnet cleaner before
as for corals i’ve only had them host a frogspawn which it smothered and killed (not intentionally i didn’t want it to host that) and a duncan which didn’t seem to mind but it was also giant
