Hello :) 6 weeks ago I set up my first ever reef tank. I have 2 banggai cardinals and two clowns (and some corals and other inverts). A week ago I added a six line wrasse which seemed very happy, no sign of disease or illness at all! However I woke up to find it had died two days ago :(
The same day that the wrasse died I noticed a white patch to the side of my male clown’s mouth which could only really be seen under the blues. Contacted my LFS and they said they could see nothing, however I am certain there is something there! Since then the white patches have become more obvious and have spread a little bit onto his face. He is still eating and swimming happily, lots of flirting with his girlfriend! None of my other fish seem to have the same problem.
Have attached some stills from a video I took (sorry for the quality). If it is Ich how do I treat it with corals in the tank too? I know a quarantine tank would be the ideal but unfortunately that is out of the budget :(
Parameters are all where they should be and have also done a water change today.
Any help is appreciated! I hope the little guy will be okay!:(
Thanks, Emma

Welcome to Reef2Reef!

It isn’t a good sign that the six line died and we don’t know why.

The spot on this fish is too large and diffuse to be ich. Clownfish often lip lock one another working out dominance issues, and often get scraped up.
If you can post a short video taken Nader white light, I might be able to see more clues.

I have attached the video I took the stills from, you can see clearly when screen brightness is turned up! Just concerned that there seems to now be some smaller white spots too, and potentially one at the base of his dorsal fin?:(
The clowns are constantly having those little seizures against each other which I thought was a good sign, is it?
mid it’s of any relevance I have seen him try to scrape his head against the back wall and the rocks where the spots are, maybe to try and get them off? I don’t know!

He could be trying to scrape flukes off, but this still could be a result of fighting...clowns are pretty tough on one another, even when they are getting along!
To combat the flukes, you could dose the tank with Prazipro (and increase the aeration in the tank during treatment). It is a pretty safe medication for your other animals, except possibly feather dusters.

Would it be wise to wait a few days and see if it clears up if it’s just from fighting? Or should I go ahead and treat now? Thank you so much for the help!

If it were my fish, I would wait a few days, but each the fish for fighting, as that can get worse.

Hi All, first time poster and i apologise for jumping on someone elses question but i am having the same issue with one of my clowns. this is my first reef tank so i am learning a lot but this has me lost and i am finding it very hard to find any information on it. See pics attached, it only seems to be on one of my clowns and no other fish in the tank seems to have anything abnormal. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Is it raised? Could be Cauliflower Disease. I’m no expert myself but might be worth a google! Or could it be the same thing as my clown, potentially a scrape from rocks? Hope you find an answer!! :)
