Clownfish swim bladder issue?

Hi everyone,
I'm here again!
I have a clownfish that I got from a friend, this is the story:
My friend got the fish from someone that claimed the fish got picked on by other fish and that's why he brought him to my friend.
My friend put him in the sump for temp acclimation then forgot about him for couple of hours.
Then he just released him in the display without drip acclimation.
The fish shows weird behavior, swimming at the top of the water on his side and sucking air from time to time above the water line.
I did a 30 minute Methylene blue with air stone and took him to my now empty but cycled QT (with live rock).

The fish still shows the same behavior but looks more exhausted (I guess from the bath).


What could this be? What treatment is recommended?

Thanks, It looks like it's a buoyancy issue, but if no one will agree with this I'll just let him be like you suggest.

I'd just let it settle in. There may have been salinity changes that it needed to contend with.

Clownfish often hover at the surface in tanks where another clown is intimidating it, maybe this is leftover from that. I don't see any evidence of a swim bladder issue (those are rare anyways).

Hi everyone, condition doesn't improved.
Today noticed stringy feces + anal obstruction.
There is internal redness at near the black dots at the back of the fish, he had those from the they I took him in - You can kind of see it in 00:23 in the video.

He eat very small amounts (but looks like he tries - reacts to food in the water) - I need to feed it straight to his mouth for him to accept food.


From the research i've done it looks like Intestinal worms / Internal parasites / Internal infections / Fish constipation.

What should be the action plan for the guy?

What type of food have you seen the fish actually swallow?

If the fish is in a quarantine tank that you can medicate, you could treat with with API General Cure in the water. This has praziquantel and metronidazole in it, both of these can help treat internal issues. Marine fish constantly drink water, so the fish intake the medication that way.

If so I will leave him alone bc hybrid clowns like this one is known to love staying in the tank top corner like this. Mine do that. Not sure if that’s for sure an obstruction issue. Couple just be in the process of excreting

Should I try to mix more general Cure or something else with his food?

He likes blood worms.

general cure doesn't work as an additive to food so I hope thats not how you gave it.

You cannot mix General Cure with food - the two medications have different oral dosing rates.

Was it eating up until today?

It's complicated, but dosing General Cure for internal issues needs to be done every 48 hours, for external flukes, the time span is 8 days.

He was biting, not sure about eating. I dosed the GC to the water and not to the food. So what is the correct dosing for this case? Every 48 hours for how long?

For internal issues, you should dose it, and then, 48 hours later, dose it again. 48 hours after that, do a partial water change. For external flukes, the timing is 8 days apart.

It's been over 2 weeks now, I'm pretty sure the clown is blind.
He is not responding to me going near him only to food in the water that he can smell. I was feeding him directly to his mouth over the last 2 weeks otherwise he just bites randomly when he smells the food in the water.

Any idea how that happens? I guess there are no ways to fix it.

Yes, it does look to be either blind, or with damaged eyesight. Not sure what all can cause blindness; age, chemicals, infections, injuries and tumors all can cause that. None of them are really correctable. Supportive care would be to isolate the fish and then hand feed it.
