Hello,

I want to always educate myself so I am going to post my clownfish I just noticed this today. I have a pair but the other I cant get a picture of but the one shown is the worst looking. They both have some redness. I have them in a QT tank and we finished 30 day coppersafe about a month ago 76 day fallow is over on Thursday for the display tank.

Does this look bacterial? There are no open sores and doesnt appear to be heavy breathing.

Picture is hard to get as I dont have a light on this tank just ambient room light and my phone light

Also any other tips to get them to eat something thats not pellets. I have tried brine Mysis LRS nano and they wont touch it. They only want TDO pellets. I am worried they are a bit thin. I have had them for about 14 months. They were very tiny when I bought them.

Weve been seeing this repeatedly with mainly tank raised clowns and have labeled as clown bruising and may be bacterial in nature. What I can say is that it either improves or worsens but in many cases has improved. You can as I have suggested to others add to tank ruby rally pro which will help with bacterial yet being reef safe OR in separate tank apply Seachem Kanaplex which is absorbed by the fish
Assure good diet and water quality moving forward

I have both Rally pro and kanaplex. Which one would if bacterial be more effective? They are in a 10gal QT by their self

Kanaplex for sure. Add aeration during treatment

Sorry - the picture isn't clear enough for me to say if this is "clownfish bruising" or not. Here is a thread I started about this issue and there are some good example pictures, you should be able to compare these to yours to see if the issue is the same.

It looks more like the third picture from that document and it basically is redness on the face and around the entire perimeter of the body. Creates more like a red outline on the fish. Its not Bluish purple like a traditional bruise.

I could be paranoid as well its been a rough few months as far as my fish go

Here is a picture I got the female in the net with. See if thats better most noticeable on the dorsal

That pink coloration under the white on the dorsal area does look like this bruising to me. I wish I had a cause/cure for you, but the cause isn’t yet known.

Thanks for your help would it be beneficial to run kanaplex or Rally pro to see if it is some kind of bacterial agitation

Kanaplex more likely to help than Rally Pro, but since this is internal to the fish, medicine baths of any type will have difficulty reaching the fish's internal tissues. Marine fish do drink tank water, so they will swallow some medication, but maybe not enough to help. You can make medicated food, but it is a complicated process.

Kanaplex says dose every two days should I do a water change before second dose?

Just an update on this thread just dosing to the water with kanaplex did nothing.

Not sure the method for dosing food..
Kanaplex takes 2-3 days too start working and another 2-4 days to positively take effect.

I have been dosing per the instructions which is ever 2 days and today would have been the 3rd dose which instructions state is maximum
Change water and repeat one treatment but keep in mind, as mentioned on the onset, Fish may or may not respond and it may or may not change. See this post below which indicates what we've seen. Has diet and overall stamina improved?

Try brine shrimp again
I typically do a 25% water change between doses of antibiotics.
So just to update on this thread. I feel like it is the "Clown fish bruising" I did end up dosing the water with kanaplex for 3 different doses. The redness is still there but its really only noticeable under bright white lighting.

My fallow is over in main display I put them back in last night and under my blues the redness is not noticeable at all. The female has some purplish lining her dorsal but you really have to stare to see it.

Otherwise the fish are eating swimming breathing normally.

They are eating a little bit more besides pellets such as brine and blood worms but they dont chase after it like they do the TDO pellets

Just for records Jay these are Orange storm clownfish designers. I think you mentioned its happening in these type of clowns
