My smallest clow has started hosting my Frogspawn but the larger one will not go near it. Is this usuall or will it start to host it eventually? The larger Clown has been in the tank for about 6 or 7 months and the smaller one has been in the tank for about a year or so. Is my hoping that the larger one will start to host it also a probabiility or not?

Hard to say. I've got a pair of maroons that I got in Nashville at the swap last year, and one stays in the anemone, the other stays on the other side of the tank. They socialize from time to time (and one is noticably smaller than the other), but the 'male' (smaller one) has never been in it. I saw one hosting in the sand at Kermit's in Memphis, and have seen them host in hair algae, so you can never tell. Fickle little fishes:).

Mine "hosts" behind the water return spigot. :( I have frogspawn, green star polyps, a really large toadstool leathuer, and several large patches of different types of xenia, but they won't host in any of those.

I know when mine started hosting my duncan the male (smaller) was first. Then after a couple of weeks the female kicked him out. It is almost like he was the guinea pig to make sure it was safe. Then she took over. Almost just like with humans. I find a place to live he makes it her own....lol

I have 2 pair of clowns that both host different things.. One pair likes the Hairy Green Shrooms & the other pair love their Nem. They are in seperate tanks because I did not want any Nems in my main reef display.

I had them hosting in a Frogspawn and ended up moving them to another tank, because they were irritating the polyps so much that it began to keep them form opening. Keep an I on the Frogspawn.

I had 2 that hosted my overflow. both pulled a nemo and died in the sump. I saved one one night just to find him back in the sump dead the next morning. I even put filter media in the overflow, but even that couldn't stop dumb and dumber.

Mine host in the same place (as I said above), but I haven't had this kind of problem. They have hosted the overflow for 10 months now!

sorry to hear of your loss, bubbles.

yeah i always have the crazy fish. Next time i decide to buy a clown fish i will make sure its fully grown and hope it takes to my frogspawn instead of the overflow. But i hear all sorts of stories about them hosting clams, magfloats and pumps. Also theres a funny video on youtube where this clown cant decide on what coral to host in its tank.
