Hi,

Just got these clowns today. I’m new to having fish, especially marine.

They are just swimming around the top. What could this mean? I cycled the tank and the store checked my levels all are okay for the fish. They’ve been in the tank for a few hours now I tried to sprinkle some pallets for them, they didn’t really eat. They were active most of the day but just now behaving weird.
Tank is at about 25 degrees Celsius.
Please help.
I have attached photos.

Not usual behaviour for a new clown just added.
At least from a still pic.

As long as they are not “popping” at the surface, an indication of ammonia, or lethargic, I’d just what for a full day and review again.

Did you have the flow off for these pictures?

Are they breathing heavy? Does it look like they are yawning or gasping for air?
The flow is still on. It’s on a lower level.

They’re sort of opening and closing their mouth quickly sorta like panting to me ‍♂️

I tried to upload a video but didn’t work
Mine have been swimming (living) at the top in a corner for years. Absolutely a clown fish behaviour.

So if that’s the only concern, no real indication anything is wrong at this time which can be defined.

Maybe the video see other behaviours.

Remember, you just put them into a glass box, a totally new environment.

A video will for sure help determine.

They’re new to the tank so they’ll be funny a couple days for sure.

You need to get comfortable with doing testing yourself.

Learning how to comfortably test will change your reefing life.

Start with some salifert tests and just keep practicing.

You need agitation at the surface of the water to generate oxygen in the water. Can you aim a powerhead at the surface?
