Clown looks sick

Hi all,

Please help.
Got this clown about a week ago. Appears to have some sort of white growth around its one gill and it's fin near said gill seems to be rotting.

I'm setting up a quarantine holding tank while I wait for responses.

Please help!

Eating fine, swimming fine, looks fine aside from it's fin and gill. The other clownfish is 100% so I assume if it was brook, ich, or velvet that wouldn't be the case?

Although rare in clownfish, I think this may be Lymphocystis, a non-fatal viral disease of marine fish. The virus gets into the skin cells and causes them to grow to giant size. After a month or so, the fish fights off the virus and in a few weeks, it returns to normal.

If the fish continues to show no other symptoms, I would say that confirms it is Lymphocystis.

Agree on Lympho and likely a reaction to new tank water and is viral and with good water quality and diet (blend of frozen and dry - TDO pellets and LRS nano frenzy and brine shrimp is good)- It will release on its own

I really appreciate the help. That's a relief. I really love this little guy and glad to hear he'll be OK with some extra TLC.

One question: if it is a virus, can it spread to my other fish? And if the virus is in the water, will I need to remove the fish and leave the tank fallow for several weeks? I have corals.

Lymphocystis isn't life-threatening to fish. Not every fish will catch it, but it isn't something you need to isolate them from.

Continue to watch the fish closely for other symptoms though; swimming funny, rapid breathing, not eating, as those can be signs of other issues.
