It can happen right away or if the clam does not like where it is, it won't attach. Damage foot also keep the clam from attach.
I would worry if the calm does not open well and won't attach after a few days where it should (great water conditions, low currents and great light.

I don’t think the foot is damaged…but it did get knocked off where I placed it a couple times. It’s small and didn’t fall far. I built it a little corral so it’s staying put now…opening up well. Guess there’s nothing else to be done?
