Thank you. My qt was not cycled when I started. I used Seachem Stability to establish biofilter. Followed the direction on the bottle and did water changes everyday for 7 days. QT 2 angels going on three weeks this Thursday.

I’ve sourced some 250mg CP tablets from a pharmacist for my up and coming holiday, I plan on using this instead of cupramine due to the wider range of parasites it treats, I’ve been around two weeks maybe more in cupramine at .5 and was wondering what length of time I would need to use it for any potentially brook, as cupramine does not treat brook but only suppress the parasite.

@saltyhog recently put a Flame Fairy Wrasse thru CP, and I have put both an Orange-Back & Yellow-Flanked through 30 days of CP.

More testing is required, but I'm thinking Fairy Wrasses are CP safe. The big question is whether or not Flasher and Macropharyngodon genus wrasses can tolerate CP.

That'd be awesome.

Chloroquine only targets the free swimming stage, same as copper. Free swimmers are probably also susceptible to formalin, metronidazole, Hydrogen peroxide and an assortment of other chemicals. The difference is both copper & CP remains stable in the water without the constant need to redose, which undoubtedly causes lapses in treatment coverage.

To my knowledge, only harsh chemicals such as chlorine or Benzalkonium chloride, or extreme temperature/drying can kill encysted tomonts. There is no "safe" treatment to remove embedded Crypto trophonts on a fish. However "surface parasites" such as velvet can be partially cleared by using a freshwater dip, formalin bath, etc., and those with a direct life cycle (e.g. brook, uronema) can be completely eradicated by using formalin, metronidazole, etc.

The good doctor and Healthy Aquatics smell a little fishy to me.;Yuck

Thanks for the info. I might pull the trigger on that orange back then. If no visible infections I will just be doing 40mg dose.

Is there any difference between using chloroquine phosphate and chloroquine sulfate?. I have only found chloroquine sulfate.

I’ve only successfully experimented with Chloroquine phosphate.

I know Chloroquine diphosphate did not work for some reason, but perhaps @Randy Holmes-Farley @Christoph could weigh in on using Chloroquine sulfate. Whether or not it is the same thing. It might have more to do with the purity (99% or better) for dosing purposes.

There is no real difference, but you need to dose less with chloroquine sulfate, since the substance has less molecular weight. A good approximation is that if you would dose 10 mg/l chloroquine phosphate you can dose 8.5 mg/l chloroquine sulfate instead.

Also CP does not need to be >99% pure to be effective. Even if CP is only 90% pure it would still work (considering the residual 10% are not toxic to fish): When dosing for 15 mg/l CP you would end up with an actual concentration of 13.5 mg/l CP (considering 90% purity), and thats still well within the therapeutic range.

Best,
Christoph

So, the trick is knowing what % of Chloroquine phosphate (or sulfate) the product contains (for dosing purposes), and also ensuring the residuals are not toxic to fish? Which can only be done via water analysis of a test solution. ;)

What kind of ammonia pads exactly? Which brand?
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004MNOARK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 is what i just order.

ONe issue I am having with CP is that it didn't eradicate the ick in 21 days and I had to clear it out as some of the fishes weren't eating; however, that was a fatal mistake as the ick came back in full force within 24-48 hours which wiped out more fish. So far, I think i lost 40 fishes this month....

right now my scribble angel isn't eating anymore...but its very active and breathing heavily..so i am not sure what to do.. any suggestion? It seems like the common theme as the fishes stop eating and just drop dead =/ or get destroyed by the ick.

Order CP from someone. Either fishman chemicals, national fish pharmaceutical, or NLS ick shield. This is if you can't get a prescription.

Where did you order it from?

Finally I got the CP, but a doubt has arisen because the information that I read in the pills box says that each pill is 250 mg of CP but then says that the chloroquine base is 155 mg. Should I work with the 250 mg or the 155 mg?
