I have a question on this coral. Based on the article that was in the Reef Hobbiest Magazine, this coral was obtained from a hobbiest tank by WWC and the first piece sold in February 2008. Only frags of this have been sold ... how does someone have such a large piece for sale ... unless they feed it sterioids? They did state in the article that it was a fast growing Chalice, but was this really the Bubble Gum Monster or just a look-alike? Just seems like fast growth to me is all. If so, I'm just praying my little nugget grows as fast!

yea i have to agree, it looks nothing like the true BGM. Just another person trying to cash in on that name. I believe it even says it was never fragged...... which would make it impossible to be the bgm. It is a beautiful chalice though......but wow 1100.....Looks like alot of the aussie echino's that have been coming in as of late......

Thats definately not the Bubble Gum Monster! I feel sorry for the person that shelled out the dough for that... The seller should be ashamed of themself...

Its not even the same type of coral. The BGM doesn't have one large central eye like the ebay one does...

I think the name on there was to just grab attention - most ppl, including the seller, probably knew that it was not BGM obviously. But sheesh...just look at that thing, it's freaken sweet! Pink eyes w/ red swirled in against green body? :tire:

Ok, so who won it?

I agree with you sweet chalice. I also agree name was there to grab attantion, however I can understand usuing the name in the item description, but when I read this I found it to be a bit misleading, or false advertisement

Yeah, to be that deceptive is just sad. The whole LE craze is getting to be quite ridiculous, but it won't stop if someone is willing to pay.

That was very wrong to list it as BGM. I know first hand that it was a wild piece and was collected at that size.

I really despise deception with the LE/AE corals.

Me too Sara. :(

That is just another reason that their are many sites that will never see any of my money; including sponsors here and RC. I think it is sad and pathetic when a person or company sells a coral that they KNOW has no lineage as the real deal. I think its even worse when a company knows it and uses a name that is close to the original name; maybe by changing it by using an "ie" instead of a "y" per say.

There are plenty of low life people in this hobby that do not have the same ethics and morals that some may have and I understand that, but that does not mean that I have to support them or even wish them success.

This is probably the harshest statement I have ever written on any of the boards, but your simple statement Sara hit home. It is very sad that this wonderful hobby has these types of issues.

I just saw that it was a Reef2Reef sponsor that was selling this coral. Does Reef2Reef really want to be associated with a sponsor that would deceive their buyers?

Lets not go down that road please. I can't police everything that goes on and besides that what may be unethical to you might not be to others. I for one am not for it, but like I said I am not the chalice police either.

Thanks.
