Hey all!

Just recently purchased a pair of chalices from a sponsored vendor on this site.

They both look really nice, no doa, but one is suspiciously missing many of the colors it had on the wysiwyg picture on the site.

Not like faded, but missing the colors entirely. So it's a very nice two shade chalice but I expected 3+ more lol.

My question is can I expect those colors to reappear after some time? I know acros can dull with shipping rather regularly but I didn't think that was typically the case with chalices.

Just want to make sure I wasn't hoodwinked lol

It could be a lot of different things. It could be as simple as lighting spectrums. A lot of the pictures we see selling us things are super blue lighting enhanced further in processing. It could also be that WYSIWYG was "almost" WYSIWYG where they take the most colorful frag of the lot and post that picture and send a random frag from the same colony. There are many other options but those two are the ones I've seen most recently as the ones that had the frag not matching what was ordered

Definitely could be but I'm not sure if I'm quite sold. I have good blue lighting that's supposed to make the colors pop (combo orphek blues and radions) and the site said I would receive the coral photographed.

The shape also looks a little off from what's pictured.

I know they enhance and spice up the colors with photoshop; the other chalice I got wasn't as bright but at least all of the colors pictured were present, ya know?

Could be the almost WYSIWYG situation. You could always see what the seller says

Chalices don't really need to color up after shipping like an acro. If it is indeed the same coral then the difference is likely from the seller taking pictures with some combination of heavy blues, UVs, and/or a lens filter. Even if your light can make colors pop it doesn't necessarily mean it will pop in the same manner as the seller's lights. We can only guess the reason for the differences without seeing any comparison photos though.

LEDS and filters are amazing for adding colors to frags. They may show up as they grow up, but only time will tell.

Yup that's what I thought, regarding acros. It's not even a dullness, it's just straight up colors missing haha.

Seller seems to be responding so will hold off on posting pictures as I don't want any negative impressions thrown their way and they watermark their images

Whelp, my suspicions were confirmed and the seller acknowledged that it was not the same chalice.

Unfortunately, he doesn't have the one pictured anymore and says they must have been switched.

He did give me store credit, but I still feel a bit shafted since I'm out shipping and left without the coral I ordered. Even if I wanted to use credit I'm out shipping another time.

Kind of a bummer since that was the whole reason I ordered, such a neat coloration I hadn't seen before.

I appreciate the color spectrum suggestions, but if I recall correctly (and I recognize that research in this department is largely anecdotal) this is a relatively well known phenomenon with rainbow (multicolor) chalices.

When one is fragging them one must be careful to get frags with all colors on each. A red/blue/orange chalice will only continue to grow all three colors if the frag is made containing all three colors.

It sounds like you are getting sorted out, but as described above, you got a frag of the same coral, but with only some of the colors, and it will not spontaneously start to grow the others (no "coloring up" like acros).

imo the seller should also refund you shipping in this case as you paid for shipping to receive something you did not order. This isn't a DOA or some problem with your husbandry, this is their mistake and it cost you money.

Yeah I'm of the same opinion that I should receive shipping. It wasn't even the correct chalice actually, definitely not the same strain.

Check the vendor policy. Most of them state there is no refund on shipping. I don’t like it but it’s generally the case.

This happened to me recently. It really bummed me out as well because the entire reason I made an order was for that one Zoanthid in particular which was a WYSIWYG. The seller said they had those frags a while and it must have changed. Also got store credit which to me means nothing because, like you said you have to shop again and pay the awful one day shipping charges. Again. Plus, we lost out on one of a kind. Had to vent.
