Hi,

I wanted to ask about my chalice coral. It’s been thriving for months in my take and suddenly, I’m noticing some bleaching that is getting worse slowly. I added a peppermint shrimp and emerald crab who may be bothering it, but I’m uncertain. What can cause a chalice to start to bleach like this?

Thanks in advance!

peppermints and emeralds will both eat corals, but generally not SPS.

How are your N and P levels? Change anything with light or flow recently? Too much light can be a culprit.

Chalices are LPS, as they are in the families Merulinidae and Lobophylliidae.

Its not bleaching, but it is very receded. I don't think I see eaten parts, perhaps a coincidence that you added the shrimp and crab..... I think you should consider other possibilities, has anything changed recently, any parameter changes?
