so it seems it doesnt patter what fuge light i use my tank heats up at night. other day it went up 5 degrees just because i have fuge lamp on. i switched from a kessil h380 which was way to strong raised tank 5 degrees in just a few hours to a tunze 8811 which now still raises like 3 degrees in 8 hours.
anyone have any low cost solutions for this? will a fan even work? I feel like a fan in the cabinet wont even keep the chaeto cool properly.
the ambient room temp is like 74 degrees.

It's not the light. I run my neptune gro light right at the water level and my temp sensor is right below it and my water never heats up.

what else could it possibly be? my AC in home goes colder to like 72-73 at night and some how everything still heats up i think the chaeto absorbs the heat from light and is radiant heating the water. the heater is turned off and the temp prob is in the 1st chamber and the light and chaeto is in the 3rd chamber

actually it has to be the light i have the light set to turn off at 80 degrees and once it hits 80 light goes off and the temp drops rapidly

This is odd. How big is the reservoir of water the tunze is situated on/in. I have the 8831 and do not experience any sort of heat/raised temperature from it. It runs 12 hrs overnight about 1/4" off the water. Unless you have a defective unit how could we both use it but not both experience the same heat from it?

I think maybe cause white light it creates more heat then the 8831. This is 8811 white and blue

What temperature do you have your thermometer set to? These are hobby grade. Perhaps yours, trying to compensate for a room temperature decrease at night is swinging too much and that's what you're noticing?
My heater is turned off i dont use one it never drops below 76 even with no heater on

Its hard to imagine a 10W led light producing enough heat to raise 40G of water from mid 70's to 80 degrees but there doesn't seem to be too many other options.

Do you have a way to ventilate the cabinet your sump is in. I;m sure some airflow would significantly help the situation

Could be camera angle, but is the light sitting in the water? It looks like one end is from the pic

My guess is the heat sink is partially submerged adding the heat to the water instead of venting it out. Still seems like high increase though for such a light. @rvitko may have some suggestions?
