My brother and sister in law have a pottery business/shop on the side. They are also aquarium enthusiasts :) does anyone know about the safety of using kiln fired (unglazed and glazed?) As part of the aquascape?

I am in process of setting up a couple small reef aquariums and might ask him for some custom pieces to help scape the tanks, but i just don't know what is safe.

Thoughts?

I would be very nervous of what any type of clay is going to leach out.

You may be able to coat the pottery, but then the coating may rub off.

As long as its food safe I would assume it would be safe , though I'd be leery of the red clay stuff that ain't glazed seen it breakdown due to hard water leaching out of it.
