The Chalice will plate outward ( and not really upwards) and encrust where it comes in contact with the rock. Now the Pectinia will encrust some and shoot up vertical spires.

I waited for the cycle to avoid a large nitrate spike, but I also have a very small tank. Might depend on what your situation is.

How long do I need to wait on a new tank to add hammer coral?

I would wait for a more mature reef. Not as long as Acro's but I would do a few months of other corals first before I would introduce a euphyllia.
